The Buttermarket is a food hall, bar and courtyard in the heart of Redruth, bringing independent food businesses, good drinks, events, live music and plenty of people together under one roof.

Independent by nature
We’re here for independent businesses.
Our kitchens are run by the people behind them, with their own menus, ideas and ambitions. From new businesses finding their feet to established names trying something different, we give them the space to grow, build an audience and put down roots in Redruth.
The kitchens keep their profits. Any surplus the Buttermarket and the bar make goes back into the building and the wider work of Redruth Revival CIC.
So when you grab lunch, meet friends for a drink or stay for an event, you’re helping independent businesses grow and helping keep this place moving.
More than a food hall
Food is at the heart of what we do, but there’s plenty more going on.
Live music, night markets, vibrant events, cocktails, late DJ sets and a courtyard made for lingering. The mix changes, new businesses come and go, and there’s always another reason to pop in.
The Buttermarket is also home to a growing community of independent businesses, creatives and organisations - making these old buildings a busy place to work, make, meet and spend time, right in the heart of Redruth and Cornwall.
An old building with a new life
The Buttermarket dates back to 1825–26, when it formed part of Redruth’s historic market complex.
After years of change and decline, the buildings have been carefully restored and brought back into everyday use by Redruth Revival through a £4m regeneration project, with funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Architectural Heritage Fund, Historic England and Cornwall Council.
The result is a place that keeps the spirit of the old market, but gives it a new purpose - creating space for independent businesses, creativity, community and a whole lot of food.

We’re not usually ones for blowing our own trumpet, but the Buttermarket has picked up 10 regional and national awards and accolades, recognising everything from its architecture and restoration to its community impact.
Highlights include a Civic Trust Award and a 2026 RIBA South West & Wessex Award. It’s also currently shortlisted for four RIBA awards - including the Client of the Year, Conservation Award, Reinvention Award and Stephen Lawrence Prize.
Not bad for a food hall.
