Steven the seagull, fish finger mush and hassleback potatoes: Get to know The Jar

The Jar is an Indian and Sri Lankan inspired street food offering serving up flavourful food inspired by travel experiences.

With aromatic curries and vibrant street food, their menu captures some of that wonderful warmth and brings it to Cornwall. Tasty dishes made with fresh, humble ingredients and brought to life with love and spices, the perfect thing to enjoy with friends and warm your soul!

1. What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?

Half eaten fish finger mush off my kids plate… yuck!!

2. Where’s your favourite place in Cornwall?

Tintagel.

3. If you were able to meet anyone in the world, past or present, who would it be?

Cleopatra.

4. What’s your favourite ingredient to cook with?

Pepper

5. Can you tell us one of the dishes on your Buttermarket menu?

I’m working on a Sri Lankan goat curry recipe using Rumbuck Cornish Goat from my friend Olly’s herd. 

6. If you had a pet seagull, what would you name them?

It’s got to be Steven….sorry.

7. If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Rice.

8. What’s your favourite song to play in the kitchen?

Jealous Guy by John Lennon and then all the covers on loop, until everyone apart from me goes crazy.

9. Coffee or tea?

Both.

10. Which is the best form of potato?

Hassleback.
