09 Sep Goose barnacles, Bob Dylan and Jonathan Livingston Seagull: Get to know Bango Kitchen
So you may have heard that Bango Kitchen will be taking up residence at the Buttermarket very soon.
You may have also heard about their fluffy bao buns and tastebud-tingling Asian fusion food-style. But, have you heard about their opinions on potatoes?
We picked the brains behind Bango Kitchen to find out a little more about them and their food. Read on for exclusive gossip, including their favourite song to blast in the kitchen (*Spoiler* it’s not Bango by the Chemical Brothers).
1. What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?
All kinds of insects and lizards when travelling around SE Asia, but I’d say the weirdest I actually enjoyed is Percebes/Goose Barnacles when on our honeymoon in Galicia.
2. Where’s your favourite place in Cornwall?
I love being anywhere in Cornwall but for the rugged beauty and wildness it has to be The Lizard Peninsula.
3. If you were able to meet anyone in the world, past or present, who would it be?
Bob Dylan.
4. What’s your favourite ingredient to cook with?
Very tricky question but probably crab (Cornish obviously!).
5. Can you tell us one of the dishes on your Buttermarket menu?
There will be Bao!
6. If you had a pet seagull, what would you name them?
Recently I re-read the fantastic book – Jonathan Livingston Seagull with my daughter, so I can’t look beyond that as a name right now!
7. If you could only eat one cuisine for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Spanish food generally but more specifically Pinxtos, it’s such high quality and so diverse that I’d never get bored!
8. What’s your favourite song to play in the kitchen?
Played loud: “Only You” – by Steve Monite.
9. Coffee or tea?
So much coffee!
10. Which is the best form of potato?
It’s a roast for me every time.
