25 Oct A Local’s Redruth Recap: 5 brilliant events in our town, 2024
There’s plenty of incredible events to shout about in Redruth! Here’s a small celebration of just a few recent local happenings.
1. Jaclarabag
Wednesday the 16th of October saw the Redruth Wesley Methodist Chapel filled with guests ready to enjoy the eclectic sounds of Jaclarabag – a brand-new trio of multi-instrumentalists using all sorts of folk musical instruments. Redruth was just one stop on Jaclarabag’s impressive Cornish tour, where they brought folk music from around the world to Cornwall’s rural communities. This was all made possible through Carn to Cove, a pioneering charity who bring all manner of entertainment to community venues like village halls and chapels.
2. Larkhall – Piano of the Future
Another successful event at the Redruth Wesley Methodist Chapel on Saturday the 19th of October where the space was illuminated with intricate visual accompaniments to Larkhall’s award-winning, live piano playing. Larkhall uses a computer co-performer called Otto, but this is no ordinary AI. ‘It possesses the remarkable ability to decipher the intricate musical nuances within a song, translating them into stunning visuals that dance in perfect harmony with the sound’.
3. Electric Earth exhibition
This month has seen the Electric Earth: an exhibition and a live residency, a celebration and a warning by Anne Colvin installed at The Ladder. Electric Earth was a project in collaboration with Auction House Art who are soon to be in residence at our very own Buttermarket. Massive thanks to The Ladder for stepping in at short notice to house this awesome exhibition.
4. Make a Mends presents: Fashion Resisters
Redruth’s local retail superheroes Make a Mends organised a brilliant event on the 21st of October to mark International Repairs Day. In line with their motto ‘we care, repair & share’, the evening was a fabulous event at the Grow Box Cafe. With a bar, prizes, quiz and exhibition it was a joyous evening and a brilliant event for the local community – and it sold out!
